And the Buskers are off again... But They will be Back December 2007
After 9 days of unadulterated street fun, the Kuala Lumpur International Buskers' Festival (KLIBF) has finally come to a close.
KLIBF 2006 added another exciting dimension to city life and shopping experiences in Malaysia when the world renowned Buskers descended upon Kuala Lumpur to liven up the city with quirky antics and larger than life personalities.
The Buskers performed their street theatre from 3 to 10 December and brought fun and laughter to thousands locals and tourists alike at 1 Utama Shopping Centre, Central Market, Bukit Bintang, Menara KL and Berjaya Times Square. The opening Buskers’ Grand Parade on 2 December at Dataran Merdaka was the talk of the town as thousands of spectators were treated to a visual feast of stunning costumes and international fanfare.
The fun and celebration continued as the festival switched to party mode when the Buskers hit the clubs in KL. The Buskers' Street Party presented by Carlsberg brought the party up a notch at Asian Heritage Row (off Jalan Sultan Ismail) as well as at most of the Carlsberg affiliated entertainment outlets along Jalan P.Ramlee. There was plenty of spunk, mirth, spontaneity and gaiety as buskers shared their passion for laughter and street theatre with the pub-crawlers and kept the crowd on its feet to till wee hours of the morning.
Besides being a fun and exciting festival, the organisers realised KLIBF was an opportune event to raise funds for those less fortunate. The organisers and the international Buskers through Kiwanis Club of Damansara raised a total of RM 30,000 throughout the 9 days of the festival.
As Malaysians bid farewell to the world renowned Buskers, they will be happy to know that KLIBF will return for its second installation in December 2007. In the meantime, let's tip our hats to the Buskers, who are en-route to other performances around the world. We look forward to having them back again next year.
